Book Models

Though a binding primarily serves to protect a book's contents from handling and storage, it can also help provide information on use, historic circumstance, and provenance. Books are not just text carriers but rather embody information in a much broader sense as artifacts.

Book production has been influenced by tradition, craftsmanship, economics, aesthetics, and personal preference. The development of bookbinding in different regions can give clues on the development and dissemination of different materials and techniques.

Bookbinding models are used to demonstrate and exemplify book mechanics as well as to better understand and teach book history. These models below include replications of historical techniques and styles.
